BEACHVILLE Location Winnipeg, MB Date 2002 Status City-Reemerging Ideas Competition

Beachville was a proposal seeking alternatives to the Red River waterfront in the Exchange District in Winnipeg. We imagined the place to be radically transformed through an urban beach typology plus the entire infrastructure necessary for its accomplishment. The intention was to find a precise urban identity to the waterfront by bringing the city to the river. The leisure/beach component of the site was meant to operate as a social equalizer. The proposal served as a general critical reflection on the urban conditions of Winnipeg, and as pointers for any scale of intervention: from the sidewalk to the infrastructure.
